Sir András Schiff received two high honours in the golden hall of the Musikverein

Sir András Schiff, the renowned pianist and conductor, has been honoured with the prestigious Bösendorfer Ring, following his recent concert at the Musikverein. This accolade, first awarded in 1953, symbolizes the exceptional artistic achievement, and contribution to the world of music also in relation to the Bösendorfer sound. In addition he was awarded the Austrian Decoration of Honour for Science and Art, 1st Class, an outstanding accolade recognizing his extraordinary contributions to music. The award signifies Austria's appreciation of Sir András Schiff's influential and enduring impact on classical music, both as a performer and as an educator. His artistry has not only enriched the cultural heritage of Austria but also the global community, fostering a deeper appreciation for classical music.

A solo concert with Sir András Schiff is always a surprise as there is no programme. Schiff only reveals what he is going to play when he is on stage. In return, he takes his audience on an exciting and educational journey and also provides very personal insights. "Playing Mozart in Vienna requires courage", reveals Sir Andras Schiff, "it's like carrying coals to Newcastle ". Spiced up with a pinch of his fine sense of humour, he illustrated how Mozart drew thematic inspiration from Bach. His outstanding musical interpretation made this concert a unique experience. The audience thanked him with frenetic applause.
